Never forgotten

Roy

KC Name: My Royal Rascal (ISDS 274990)

Roy was the dog of my dreams.

He was given to me on Christmas day when I was 9 years old. And ever since we were inseparable. He was the biggest puppy, with the biggest heart, and we became best friends from day 1. I refused to let mum train him anything, I had to do everything myself. He was mine and I was his.

Roy grew into such a large handsome dog, with the kindest of natures. He was absolutely a dog who had been here before. He could defuse any situation on body language alone.  He had such presence when walking in the room, especially with a young little handler on the other end of his lead, he was always so cool, calm, collected and oh, so very loyal. Many people admired him and our bond was clear for all to see.

Roy was my Mr Perfect and we did everything together. He was willing to excel at anything I wanted to try. He competed at Crufts for many years in many different events; YKC Heelwork to music freestyle, YKC Flyball, YKC Obedience, YKC Agility dog of the year, YKC agility teams. And we competed in the main arena at Crufts in Mini Maxi Pairs.

Our main hobby was agility, where together we went from “Starters” to “Grade 7 – Championship level” we made many finals including Scottish Junior Dog of the Year, Kennel Club International Junior final, Scottish Dog of the Year, the Highland Final and multiple Championship Finals. Roy and I also made the Scottish Team competing at World Agility Open Championships 2011. He was my dream dog and we achieved everything.

I lost Roy when he was 10 years old, he took a torsion in the night and devastatingly did not make it. I got to say my goodbyes and my heart still aches thinking of my healthy, fit wonderful partner being stolen from me. Nothing will ever make this pain go away.

Roy blessed me with his son Desmond – who is like Roy in so many ways. Looks and his kind nature. I am honoured to have a part of him still and I have no doubt he is with me every day. Not a day goes by I don’t shed a tear for him. We were the perfect team. He was a true gentleman. I’d give anything for a few more hours with him.
